ORIGINAL WITHIN AN ORIGINAL

TECHNIQUE, MATERIALS, IDEAS AND MESSAGE

My works are MONTAGES-BEHIND- GLASS and therefore can not be considered paintings, due to the fact that a pencil is only used to apply the glue that contains the object and colouring. This colouring consists of pigments, particularly natural products such as malaquite or indigo, in addition to spices such as ground ginger, cinnamon or yellow powder, which are included in the range of possibilities. Precious metals like gold and silver are equally important basic materials.

Prior to APPLICATION OF THE MATERIALS in their natural form, there is usually an experimental phase regarding technical handling, as humidity increases the intensity and brightness of the colours. Treatment of the materials becomes increasingly difficult as their similarity to dust grows. On the other hand, certain substances form crystals and change colour during the drying process.

The OBJECTS found in the collages are images or independent compositions that are included in the work, as a result of which it comes alive. The range of possibilities is immense: from notes written on scraps of paper in Chinese to shells or lobster exoskeletons, anything remotely related to the theme can be used and fantasy has no limit. Because said objects are already originals- ORIGINALS WITHIN AN ORIGINAL – it would be impossible to copy one of my collages.

The MESSAGE I am trying to transmit is of an exclusively positive nature. I do not wish to use art as a means of symbolising human tragedy and its inherent problems. The observer must take pleasure in my work and even manage to forget the worst problems of the day. He/she must be able to fantasise with my work and interpret it personally.
